New England winters tend to gnaw on a being’s constitution, certainly chickens are no exception. We make the choice to breed in spring when breeders’ bodies are able to recover some after a long winter and chicks are able to forage outdoors and not be totally restricted to a small, dusty brooder.
Our availability for hatching eggs and chicks is a small window from about April-July. After that, the flocks are usually combined and purity of eggs won’t be predictable.
In addition, we won’t release hatching eggs or chicks without being confident in the fertility rate and health of chicks.
